In response to the administration’s recent announcement of sweeping austerity measures, AAUP-TNS and the New School’s organizing committee for a Full-Time Faculty Union have issued a joint statement expressing deep concern over decisions made without meaningful shared governance, and outlining the harmful impacts on students, staff, part-time faculty, and full-time faculty alike. The statement highlights alternative approaches put forward by faculty, raises alarm over cuts to retirement benefits, reductions in course offerings, the pause on PhD admissions, and the outsourcing of Student Health Services. It calls on the New School community to stand together, attend the November 21 rally against cuts and layoffs, and join ongoing organizing efforts.
