Olúfẹ́mi O. Táíwò joins AAUP-TNS and the NSSR Department of Philosophy to read from Elite Capture: How the Powerful Took Over Identity Politics (and Everything Else)(Haymarket Books, 2022). Táíwò will engage the audience in a moderated discussion of racial capital in university life, from the TNS strike to organizing for justice in Palestine.

What Is a University? Gender, Race, Surplus

How can we make use of the tools of minoritized fields of study to ask a question that contemporary humanities scholarship rarely does—what is a university?  In this talk and workshop, Nick Mitchell will present from a book-in-progress, Discipline and Surplus: Black Studies, Women's Studies, and the Dawn of Neoliberalism, a historical study in that it uses the institutional histories of black studies and women’s studies as an optic to read the university itself.

Spring 2021 General Assembly

On Friday April 16th at 3:00 PM we will be hosting our General Assembly meeting where the results of the election will be formally announced and we will hold a discussion around the future priorities for our chapter.

In advance of the General Assembly, the membership will be voting on several amendments to the bylaws. These amendments clarify some procedural issues and also establish standing committees for the chapter. The full text of the bylaws can be found here.
